Hung VM on ESX4

Today I stumbled into a hung VM. Start using the GUI. If that does’t work use vmware-cmd to try and stop the VM.  If all else fails. Nothing left than the hard way.

Start a putty session to the expected ESX server.

Check if you are connected to one you need by typing > vmware-cmd –l

If so you can continue.

type: ps -efww | grep exchangeserv ( your machine name)

The result will be:
root 2941 1 0 Feb02 ? 00:00:04 …………exchangeserv.vmx
……………………………………………………………………………………………………
root 30029 29692 0 16:08 pts/0 00:00:00 grep exchangeserv
Type: kill -9 2941
Note: This could possible corrupt the vmdk disk.
