Hyper-V & Vmware on the same box

It’ has been a while, last time a followed a training course from RES. Using a predefined VMware image. I did have the Hyper-V role enabled on my laptop. Installing VMware Player beside the Hyper-V results of course with a exclamation. Can not start VM due to the Microsoft hypervisor.

How to solve this! Smile

Make two batch scripts:

One to stop Hyper-V :

REG ADD “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VMwareHostd” /V “Start” /t REG_DWORD /d 0x2 /f
REG ADD “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VMAuthdService” /V “Start” /t REG_DWORD /d 0x2 /f
REG ADD “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VMnetDHCP” /V “Start” /t REG_DWORD /d 0x2 /f
REG ADD “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VMUSBArbService” /V “Start” /t REG_DWORD /d 0x2 /f
REG ADD “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VMware NAT Service” /V “Start” /t REG_DWORD /d 0x2 /f
REM after reboot services above will start at bootup
bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off
shutdown /r /t 000 /f

Now you can use VMware !

One to start Hyper-V:

Taskkill /IM vmnetdhcp.exe /F
Taskkill /IM vmnat.exe /F
Taskkill /IM vmware-authd.exe /F
Taskkill /IM vmware-hostd.exe /F
Taskkill /IM vmware-usbarbitrator64.exe /F
Taskkill /IM vmware-tray.exe /F

REG ADD “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VMwareHostd” /V “Start” /t REG_DWORD /d 0x4 /f
REG ADD “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VMAuthdService” /V “Start” /t REG_DWORD /d 0x4 /f
REG ADD “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VMnetDHCP” /V “Start” /t REG_DWORD /d 0x4 /f
REG ADD “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VMUSBArbService” /V “Start” /t REG_DWORD /d 0x2 /f
REG ADD “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VMware NAT Service” /V “Start” /t REG_DWORD /d 0x4 /f

bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype auto
shutdown /r /t 000 /f
exit
